Ex-HGU Land Conflict in Tasikmalaya Heats Up, TNI and Farmer Video Goes Viral
UPDATEYUK - Tensions on the former Business Use Rights (HGU) land of PT Wiria Cakra, Cineam District, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, have once again become a public spotlight after a video from the scene went viral on social media.
The video, uploaded by Instagram accounts @tanahuntukrakyat and @spp_kab_tasikmalaya, shows a tense atmosphere as several TNI members are present in the area currently cultivated by farmers affiliated with the Pasundan Farmers Union (SPP), Thursday (18/6/2026).
In the footage, a dialogue between residents and officials can be seen amidst a heated situation, with a farmer explaining the legal basis of land ownership at the scene.
Secretary General of the Pasundan Farmers Union (SPP), Agustiana, stated that around 30 TNI personnel from the Cineam Military Command and Kodim 0612/Tasikmalaya came to the disputed land.
"They came with the intention of evicting the cultivators, claiming the land would be used for Battalion agriculture," he told Kompas.com, Saturday (20/6/2026).
According to Agustiana, the approximately 368-hectare land is former HGU of PT Wiria Cakra, which expired in 2017. After that, the land was reportedly utilized by small farmers, members of SPP, for cultivating various food commodities.
He added that other parties have also claimed ownership of the land and rubber plantations in the area, even though the HGU status has expired.
"Because they feel it's theirs, even though it's known that the HGU expired in 2017 and returned to being state land and under state control," he said.
SPP also admitted to having sent a letter to the Ministry of Defense requesting clarification and to prevent the escalation of conflict on the ground.
"We request the Minister of Defense that TNI members not be pitted against the people who are fighting for their land rights," said Agustiana.
He assessed that this unresolved conflict has the potential to further complicate the agrarian dispute resolution process that is still ongoing at both regional and central levels.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Army stated that it is investigating information regarding the alleged involvement of its personnel in the incident. Head of Information for the Indonesian Army, Brigadier General TNI Donny Pramono, said that his party is still conducting checks.
"We are checking," said Donny, quoted from Kompas.id, Friday (19/6/2026).
