Tuban Regency Government Partners with SPPG to Reduce Food Waste, Support Free Nutritious Meal Program
The Tuban Regency Government is involving SPPG in the Food Rescue Movement to reduce food waste and support the success of the Free Nutritious Meal Program.
TUBAN, UPDATEYUK.ID – The Tuban Regency Government (Pemkab) continues to strive to reduce food waste while supporting the sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). One of the steps taken is to involve the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in the Food Rescue Movement.
This effort was conveyed during a socialization activity organized by the Tuban Regency Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Service (DKP2P) involving SPPG managers from various sub-districts. This activity aims to increase awareness about the importance of efficient food management so that it does not end up as waste.
SPPG Plays an Important Role in Reducing Food Waste
DKP2P Tuban considers SPPG to have a strategic position because it is tasked with providing food for thousands of beneficiaries of the Free Nutritious Meal Program every day. Therefore, the management of food ingredients and prepared food must be carried out properly from storage, processing, to serving.
In addition, beneficiaries, especially students, also need to receive education so that they get used to taking and finishing food according to their needs. This step is considered important to reduce the amount of leftover food that has the potential to become waste.

Leftover Food Can Have Economic Value
During the socialization, DKP2P Tuban also encouraged the utilization of leftover food that is still fit for use. Food that is not consumed can be reprocessed into other safe and beneficial products.
Meanwhile, leftover food that is no longer fit for human consumption can still be utilized through cooperation with farmers as animal feed. This method is considered capable of reducing waste generation while providing added economic value for the parties involved.
Supporting the Success of the MBG Program
In addition to reducing food waste, DKP2P also reminds of the importance of implementing food safety standards. Perishable raw materials must be stored according to procedures so that the quality and safety of food are maintained.
The Tuban Regency Government hopes that all SPPGs can become pioneers of the Food Rescue Movement in the region. Through this step, food management will become more efficient, food waste will be reduced, and the success of the Free Nutritious Meal Program can be more optimal and sustainable. (*)
