Mini LNG Plant in Tuban Launched, Government Pushes for Reduced Energy Import Dependency
The Mini LNG Plant in Tuban has been officially established to support Indonesia's energy independence and reduce LPG import dependency by utilizing domestic natural gas.
UPDATEYUK.ID - The Indonesian government continues to strengthen its national energy independence strategy through the development of natural gas infrastructure. One of the latest steps is the construction of a Mini LNG Plant in Tuban, East Java, which is expected to reduce dependence on energy imports, especially LPG.
This facility is part of the government's efforts to optimize the utilization of domestic natural gas to add more value and can be directly used by the industrial sector and other energy needs.
Encouraging Energy Independence Through Domestic Gas Processing
The Mini LNG Plant in Tuban is built to process natural gas from local fields into various energy products such as LNG, LPG, and CNG. With this processing, gas that was previously limited in its utilization can now be processed into ready-to-use energy.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, emphasized that this facility is one of the important steps in strengthening national energy resilience amidst uncertain global conditions.
According to him, strengthening the domestic gas processing industry can help reduce the burden of energy imports, which has been quite large.
Multi-Energy Production for Industrial Needs
Not only LNG, this facility is also designed to produce various other energy products such as LPG, condensate, and plans for liquid carbon dioxide (liquid CO2) development. This makes the Tuban Mini LNG Plant have a strategic role in supporting cross-sector energy needs.
The products produced will be distributed to meet the needs of industries, power plants, and energy markets in several regions of Indonesia, including Java and its surroundings.
With a more integrated distribution system, the government hopes that energy supply will become more stable and efficient.

Strategy to Reduce Imports and Strengthen the National Economy
The government considers the existence of this facility not only a matter of energy but also directly related to strengthening the national economy. By reducing LPG imports, the pressure on the trade balance can be reduced.
In addition, the presence of the Tuban Mini LNG Plant is also expected to encourage investment in the energy sector and open new job opportunities in the region.
This step is part of the government's long-term strategy in building energy independence based on domestic resources. (*)
